Movie 'True North', which won the best feature award at the 2020 Bucheon International Cartoon Film Festival in South Korea, will be held at the Korean Community Center (6601 Little River Turnpike Aleandria, VA 22312) in Virginia.
This film is an animation movie about a Japanese family living in North Korea in the 1960s and 1970s due to the North Korean repatriation project. The main character's father goes missing one day, and the mother, sister, and protagonist are taken to a kwanliso deep in the mountains.
The film's director is Shimizu, a 4th generation Korean Japanese and he met about 40 North Korean defectors to make this movie based on their experiences.
2020년 남한의 부천국제만화영화축제에서 장편우수상을 수상한 '트루 노스 (True North)' 가 2023년 6월 17일, 오후 5시에 Korean Community Center (6601 Little River Turnpike Alexandria, VA 22312)에서 상영된다.
본 영화는 1960~70년대 제일동포 대상 북송사업으로 북한에 살게된 일본인 가족을 주인공으로 만든 에니메니션이다. 북한에서는 '관리소'라고 알려진 정치범수용소가 배경인데, 주인공의 아버지는 어느날 실종되고 어머니와 여동생과 주인공도 깊은 산 속의 관리소로 끌려가서 겪게 되는 이야기다.
영화 감독은 제일교포 4세로 에이지 한 시미즈고, 이 영화를 제작하기 위해 약 40여 명의 탈북민을 만나 그들의 경험을 바탕으로 제작했다고 한다.
